23/04/07 - Sarah Finishes London Marathon

For my running supporters and training buddies I thought I would let you know how it all went.   Thank you to all for helping me on the runs i did with you and a HUGE thank you to John, John and Reg for doing the long runs and all the great tips they shared.

I am today in the most pain I have ever been and every time I walk or even get up out of the chair I am in tears.

I completed the Marathon in 4 hours 48 minutes.  It was about 20-30 mins behind what I wanted to do but I can honestly say I really do not care.

It really was a very surreal day and I experienced every emotion possible.

I was running so so well till 14 miles and was way under 4.20 pace when the heat really got me and the water stations were so far away or so it seemed.  I realised I was drifting off pace and became very dizzy and panicky at 18 miles. I really did not know whether if I could finish. I had to walk and run for the next 4 miles but not walking any longer than 100m at a time.

The sights I saw were horrific people collapsing left right and centre and screams of pain and St Johns Ambulance people always busy dealing with people. It was very emotional.

On the up side, the crowd were wonderful and people were handing out oranges, sweets and screaming your name and people were great when you walked and gave you real encouragement. The runners were so supportive of other people and it was so uplifting. I managed to see friends and family at miles 9/13/16/19 and twice at end. Unfortunately, Adam had a mare and only got to see me at the end as he kept on missing me. The trains were all down which made it really hard.

When i saw the 800m mark it was incredible and I started to sprint though I was probably going like a snail!!!! and saw Friends on the corner and family on the end bit.

When I crossed the line I burst into tears and then it took 30 mins to get to Adam and family when burst into tears again.

I want to do it again but in nicer weather is not so hot as am sure I can go 4hrs 20 but only when I can actually walk as I have never felt this much pain!!!!

Thanks again for all the support I have had.  If you haven't managed to donate to my chosen charity, MacMillan Cancer Support, there is still time.  You can access my fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/sarahprice
