On 17th November 2007, Charnwood Triathlon Club held it's first
annual Awards Evening. The winners themselves were nominated by
members of the club, with the committee making the final decisions on a
voting basis. Congratulations go to all our winners.

Most Improved Athlete of the Year – Jane Spencer Completed both Southwell Sprint Tri's – at the 2nd one she took 6 mins off her time – an incredible improvement. Jane
has also shown huge improvement in swim sessions; she makes regular
training sessions whilst also juggling a family and a job – a fine
example to us all!
Rookie of the Year (1st year in Triathlon) – Becky Krych Becky
is one of the clubs rising stars. At 17, Becky started triathlon this
year from a background of running. She won the first CTC Aquathlon in
April 2007 and was her age group winner at the Southwell Tri, the last
event of the season, finishing only 5 minutes behind the first lady.
Volunteers of the Year John Barker & Reg
– John has given enormous support at both CTC Aquathlon event's both
before, during and after the events; Over the year John and his
trustworthy dog Reg have also been supportive Run session leaders, and
with so much experience John is pretty much our club running Guru!
Paul Jarvis
– Paul has spent hours and hours setting up the club website – twice!
Has dedicated huge number of hours to getting the site fit for purpose
and laid out in a way that is appealing to all. On top of this, Paul
has established the NW Leicestershire Tri section of the club pretty
much single-handedly.
Jonathon Riall
– For everything! Jon is a co-founder of the club and as such has held
roles of Secretary, Welfare Officer and Coach. Jon is now able to
concentrate solely on role as Head Coach for CTC; over the last year he
has achieved Triathlon UKCC L3 coaching award and puts huge time and
resources into the club.
Comical Award of the Year John Hartshorn
– When competing in Trentham Gardens Half Ironman this year, John knew
he'd need his supply of Jelly Babies to keep him going. In an
attempt to save time and ensure a quick fix during the bike and run
transition, John had carefully stored a jelly baby in his trainer,
ready to munch on before beginning the run. Unfortunately, in the
race itself, adrenanline was pumping hard and the jelly baby was the
last thing on John's mind. On the trainer went, and within a mile
John felt huge blistering pains in his foot. Thinking his feet
had swollen as a result of the race, John kept going and completed the
run in nothing but pain. It was only 2 days later when cleaning
his trainers that John found the jelly baby lodged at the end of the
trainer, and realised what it was that caused him to be hobbling on one
foot for the next 3 weeks!
Anthony Honey
– On Anthony's first run with the club one summer evening, the group
did it's usual route up to the Outwoods, around and back again – pretty
simple. But not for Anthony...amongst the excitement of joining
the club, he managed to lose the group and then lose the
route. What should have been a quick run to the Outwoods
and back ended up being a marathon session from the University up to
the Outwoods, over to Woodhouse, through Woodhouse Eves and Quorn, and
finally back to Loughborough – taking over 3 hours! We're pleased
to report that this didn't put Anthony off and he has since learnt that
the woods can be run as a circle – where you start is where you can
finish! |
