| Hathersage Training Camp Report05/10/07-07/10/07 - Hathersage, Derbyshire15
club members travelled to Hathersage in Derbyshire for a training and
social weekend on the first weekend in October. Accommodation was at
Thorpe Farm Bunkhouses. It was basic but the views from the barn were
fantastic and the location was great. It was located in the middle of
the countryside, perfect for cycling and running, but also only within
a short walking distance of pub in the Hathersage, all be it downhill
on the way to the pub meaning a steep climb back to the barns at the
end of the night!
People travelled to Hathersage following work
on Friday and upon arrival everyone made their way to the pub for a few
quick drinks following a couple of slices of pizza at the barns.
People
awoke on Saturday morning to sunshine and within a short time they were
all out on their bikes to tackle the Derbyshire hills! Around 3 – 4
hours later everyone arrived back at the barns. It was fair to say that
the Derbyshire hills had been a challenge to everyone but spirits were
still high.
Spirits rose even further for the rugby fans present
that rushed to the pub straight from the bike to watch England beat
Australia in the World Cup on the Saturday afternoon!!
Saturday
evening was spent again the pub having dinner and drinks. The walk back
up to the barn at the end of the night was a challenge in itself!
Sunday
started again with glorious sunshine. We were so lucky with the
weather. The group split into 2 groups, one that headed off to do
another long ride and the other to do a shorter ride followed by a run
up to the top of Stanage Edge. It was hard work but the views at the
top were amazing.
All in all it was a fantastic weekend and
everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so in fact that we
have booked to go back again in April 2008! |
