Venue:

The Charnwood Aquathlon is based from the Loughborough University EIS Pool, which is situated only 5minutes from junction 23 of the M1. The event is being held over a 25 metre 8 lane pool, which means that swimmers will have plenty of room!

Parking:

The main parking for the event is based at the pool itself; however registration will be based 200 yards away in the Sir John Beckwith Building, however signs will be in place to direct you to the building.

Registration:

As mentioned previously, registration is to be based in the Sir John Beckwith Building at Loughborough University. Registration will be open from 12pm onward and will close at 1pm. Please note that all competitors must register before the closing time and before their start time in the pool. If anybody is entering on the day this must be done before 12.45pm.

Race Briefing:

There will be one race briefing taking place at 1pm in the Sir John Beckwith Building, and this will be your best opportunity to ask questions to the race director about any aspect of the day.

Race Start:

The first wave will be starting in the pool at 1.20pm and all subsequent waves will be set off in 10-15 minute increments. Each wave will have between 8-16 athletes, who will be split between 8lanes of the pool. Your start time will be given when you register on the day.

Transition Area:

The transition area which is where you will leave your clothing and trainers etc and will be based along side the main pool building directly outside the main entrance.

The event is comprised of 16 lengths of the 25mtr pool. Once this stage is finished you must climb out and WALK out of the pool (no running will be permitted and a 2min penalty will be issued to anybody who does) via the main entrance. Once here you enter transition and head straight out onto a 5km run which is situated around the streets of the town and some of the university campus.

Spectators:

Charnwood Triathlon Club is conscious of making our events as spectator friendly as possible, therefore spectators will be allowed on pool side but please respect any marshals who may state that some areas are out of bounds.

Race Rules:

This event is registered with the British Triathlon Federation; therefore the rules of the federation must be followed (see www.britishtriathlon.org for more Information). Two event specific rules that have arisen are that no running on pool side will be permitted and no running on the road will be permitted unless otherwise stated by a marshal. If either of these rules is reported to have been broken, a 2min penalty will be given. We wish to make this an annual event, therefore the rules we’ve been given must be adhered to.

Results :

A set of provisional results will be made available on the day, roughly 30min after the last finisher, and a set of final results will be on the website within 24 hours after.

Prizes:

There will be prizes awarded to the male and female winners in both the Youth and Adults categories, and this presentation will be made in the Sir John Beckwith Building roughly 30 min after the last finisher.

Thanks:

First of all I would like to thank anybody who has supported this event and actually entered! But with out many people this event would not have been physically possible. Charnwood Triathlon Club members and Loughborough University have put in a great deal of time and effort and will carry on so until the last finisher crosses the line.

Last Thing…

26/02/07 - Charnwood Aquathlon announced 22/04/07

Charnwood Triathlon Club is proud to announce the inaugural running of the ‘Charnwood Aquathlon’ on 22nd April 2007 starting at 13:00.

The Charnwood Aquathlon is a race which combines two sports rolled into one. The race starts with a 400mtr swim in Loughborough’s EIS Pool, followed directly by a 5km run around the streets of the town. The key is that there is no break, and the clock simply keeps ticking, therefore it is imperative you practice putting those trainers on quickly!!

This race is perfect for beginners who have never experienced multi sport before and may be wishing to get into triathlon or alternatively it is very suitable for the top athletes as the pool and the run course are ideal for a fast and competitive event.

Because of the distance this event is open to anybody who is 15 years and older on the 31st December 2007, so go on, give it a go!

For all entry details please download an entry form from here...

Look forward to seeing you all there!!
